Freedom Alliance is blessed to work closely with so many of the heroic men and women who serve in our nation’s military. Every day we hear stories of service and sacrifice. We are inspired by the courage and commitment they display. We are humbled that in times of national emergency – like we are facing today – they report to the front line and confront the enemy, whether that enemy is a terrorist or a deadly virus.
Here are just some of the ways our military and uniformed services are being called upon during this pandemic because it is you and I who will support them in their time of need.
Right now, thousands of uniformed service members are responding to the COVID-19 crisis. Here’s how:
The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, an elite team of more than 6,000 well-trained, highly qualified public health professionals have been deployed. These emergency response teams date back 200 years, they are under the direction of the Surgeon General, they respond to public health crises.
This week two Navy hospital ships, the USNS Comfort and the USNS Mercy, were readied for deployment. Each ship has a 1,000-bed capacity and would be positioned along the eastern and western seaboard in areas with large populations, such as New York City. Reserve medical personnel are now being called up to help staff these ships.
The Pentagon is providing ventilators, masks, and other protective equipment to healthcare workers for their safety.
At least 23 states have called up members of the National Guard who are disinfecting public spaces, distributing food, assisting with transportation and logistical support of health officials and coordinating with state and local health and emergency managers.
Marines at Camp Pendleton have set up a quarantine site with barracks that can isolate nearly 300 victims of the virus.
Military laboratories are being opened to civilian organizations for purposes of testing the COVID-19 virus.
While the enormity of this crisis is still unfolding, our troops are, once again, rising to the occasion. Please keep them in your prayers.
